That, video curtsey the Rooks and Kings, is what 75 titans dying in the largest capital fight in Eve history looks like.
On January 27, 2014, exactly one year after the massive Battle of Asakai, around mid morning a battle started, due to an apparent mix-up with sovereignty payment causing Nulli Secunda(N3) to drop control of their and Pandemic Legion’s(PL) staging system, B-R5RB. The battle goes down as both the bloodiest and most expensive battles in Eve Online’s 10 year history, with an estimated $200,000 USD lost, if calculated using PLEX prices. ( NOTE: this isn’t entirely accurate, as no one actually spent that much RL money on a game…but that is a topic for another post)
Forces from both side of the Halloween War, scrambled to retake the system by dropping a Territorial Claim Units(TCUs) to prevent the other from gaining control of it. The largest ships in the game, Titans, can typically cost 100 billion ISK on the low end, and one lost in the battle is estimated at 222B isk. Of the 75 titans lost, 59 were N3/PL and 16 were CFC/RUS according to Eve Online’s Official twitter. Numerous other capitals (Super Carriers, Carriers, and Dreadnaughts) were also lost, not to mention the untold hundreds, if not thousands of sub-capital ships either in system or who died attempting to get there.
Both Polygon and The Mittani have articles that go into more detail about the battle. The previous record for number of Titans destroyed at one time was 12 at the battle of Uemon.
Today, less than 24 hours after fighting had stopped Sindel Pellion of the Angel Project has released a new parody song, titled “I will Survive” about the battle of B-R5RB.
