Brave Newbies News from Dunk Dinkle

You guys wanted an update on what Brave Newbies are up to these days.  Here it is!

Barleguet remains our home and base of operations.  At any given time, there are 50-100 pilots in system and at peak playtimes going much higher.  Brave is truly global now with fleets up constantly, no matter the time zone.  Wonderful to have people from all over the world from Pakistan to Edinburgh to Alaska to Australia all in comms together.  The conversations are interesting with multiple languages popping up all the time.  FCs from fleets looking for fights often appear to request fights and/or cooperation.

We are spending time, effort, and ISK to develop our local space a little more with POSes and POCOs.  These create opportunities for the tremendously fun bashing fleets and the accompanying delightful comms as we bash.  We have learned why groups use Dreads and Supers to bash and not cruisers.  Eventually this will make us some money, but it takes time and learning from our inevitable mistakes. Recently, people have been having fun with trivia contest and playing online Cards Against Humanity.

Lots of people come to Barleguet looking for fights are we give it to them.  There’s always something going on in Barl and the nearby systems.  The Barleguet market is growing by leaps and bounds with most commonly used items available at relatively reasonable prices due to the market PvP of the 0.01 ISKers.

We’ve been playing with a few new fleet doctrines besides our natural kitchen sink style.  The PocketRocket fleets of Rail Thoraxes and assorted shield support ships have been fun and successful.  More and more pilots have these ships ready to go in hangars and our response time is getting better.

The Brave Collective Alliance continues to grow with the latest addition of Sergaljerk, a great group of people.  Various sites show Brave Newbies as the largest Corp in Eve and in the top 5 Alliances.  While cool, and a great excuse to shoot fireworks on the undock, the open nature of Brave means we have a ton of spais, alts, and 6+ month inactive accounts making up a significant part to this.

The alliance has several corps based in null sec doing their own thing, giving the rest of alliance a few relatively safe havens to base roams out of.  We aren’t doing sovereignty yet, but more and more pilots are getting their null sec feet under them.

New pilots are joining daily, finding their way down to Barleguet via the ‘Trail of Tears’, often with the wrecks of their PVE fit ships in their wake.  There are many frigate fleet roams, classes, and other newbie friendly stuff going on regularly. We’ve been encourage group ratting for ISK, sec status, and learning fleet operations.  To bittervets, a 30 million ISK clone soldier tag is nothing, but to new pilots it’s a huge windfall.

This week are the elections for the Council of Newbie Management. Every 3 months, 4 line member are elected to the council to bring the average pilot’s voice to the table along with the permanent members of the Council, alliance CEOs, and other directors.  Lots of fun with the election campaigns on the subreddit, in comms, and in chat.

While the culture of Brave Newbies is not for everyone, we seeing lots of people having fun, most of the time.  Even many bittervets are finding themselves falling back in love with the game, getting away from the drama llamas, and back into gud fights.

7o,

Dunk Dinkle
